The emergence of new production schemes, the move towards globalization and the advent of new organizational forms, such as virtual or extended enterprises, have created new challenges of effectively managing knowledge by harnessing multiple knowledge sources into consistent business intelligence and embedding this gained intelligence into organization’s memory. The project aims to provide the research community and the industry with the necessary ontological background to support the ontology development supporting knowledge logistics activities in supply chain network formations. The project core results are, first, the identification and mapping of the supply chain network domain specifications materialized as a reference model and second, the elaboration of a detailed ontology to support the knowledge logistics function of organizations participating in the network. The proof-of-concept was tested in a case company of the pharmaceutical industry.
